WHAT ARE CHEMICAL PEELS?

Chemical peels are a skin resurfacing treatment aimed at stimulating the regeneration of skin cells. By gently exfoliating the top layers of the skin, these peels enhance overall skin appearance, promote collagen production, and address various concerns such as pigmentation issues, sun damage, acne, fine lines, wrinkles, redness, and even rosacea.

There are different types of chemical peels tailored to treat specific skin concerns and conditions, categorized based on their depth of penetration—superficial, medium, and deep. They can be combined with other modalities like dermaplaning and laser treatments to enhance penetration and treatment outcomes.

The downtime associated with chemical peels varies depending on the type and depth of penetration. It ranges from minimal to moderate downtime, which may include sensations of tightness and dryness, peeling, redness, and temporary darkening of pigmentation. The duration of downtime typically lasts between 3 to 10 days, determined by the type and depth of the chemical peel.

Achieve an Even Complexion with Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are employed to exfoliate the outermost layers of the skin and stimulate collagen production. This helps enhance the appearance of various skin issues like pigmentation irregularities, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, acne, redness, and more. Various chemical peel agents such as AHAs, BHA, TCA, and Vitamin A are accessible to address specific skin concerns, penetrating into distinct layers of the skin.

CHEMICAL PEEL FAQ

During your consultation, your clinician will assess your skin and recommend any necessary products before your chemical peel. Typically, a serum containing the primary ingredient of the peel is advised to allow your skin to adjust to the ingredient before the full-strength chemical peel. This serum is usually used in the 2 weeks leading up to your peel, though the timeframe may vary based on individual needs. Additionally, it’s important to avoid facial laser treatments for 1 week before undergoing a peel procedure.

Side effects of chemical peels can vary depending on the peel’s ingredients and other factors. The most common post-peel side effects include flaking, peeling, and mild dryness. These are considered positive signs as they indicate regeneration of skin cells, leading to skin improvement. However, not all patients will experience these side effects, as it depends on the type of peel used and individual factors.

After the procedure, it’s crucial to avoid direct sun exposure for 5-10 days, including solariums. Use physical sun protection with a minimum SPF of 30. Refrain from waxing and hair removal procedures for 7-14 days post-procedure, and avoid facial treatments for at least 14 days. Steer clear of strenuous activities for 24 hours, including hot Yoga, and avoid using steam rooms and saunas. Exfoliating products should not be used for 3-5 days or as advised by your clinician. If any scabbing occurs, do not pick the skin; instead, contact your clinician for appropriate guidance. Proper post-peel product usage is crucial to maintain skin integrity and will be discussed during your consultation, with recommended formulas provided.
