Dermal fillers are used to improve the appearance of the ageing face by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles as well as replacing some of the volume loss that occurs as we lose fat from various parts of our face as we age. Dermal filler is a humectant, which means it binds to water to increase its volume.
Dermal fillers can be used in areas where anti-wrinkle injections have effectively treated the “active” wrinkles but where resting wrinkles remain. These include the brow, crow’s feet around the eyes, creases around the mouth and nose, and lines around the forehead, lips and jaw. We are one of the very few practices to use collagen stimulating fillers to not only restore volume loss but also improve skin quality and texture, resulting in a more natural look and avoiding the “puffy, overfilled face look”
Results will last for up to 6 to 9 months or longer depending on the type of filler you choose. Eesults will vary from patient to patien as s each person’s metabolism and physiology is different. The dermal filler will dissolve harmlessly into the body with no scarring.
How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers works by restoring the volume. As we age, we also lose the volume in our bones, including in our facial bones, which adds to the sagging of the face, wrinkle formations and the formation of hollows. Dermal fillers help to restore this volume and also stimulate new collagen formation.
What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?
- Cheeks (Cheek bone augmentation)
- Lips (to increase volume and projection)
- Tear troughs (hollowing around the eyes)
- Naso-labial folds,Vertical lip lines (smokers lines)
- Marionette lines/jowls, Chin (To improve projection and shape)
- Jawline (To enhance jaw definition)
- Temples (to improve hollowing)
- Brows (to help lift the brows)
- Fine lines and wrinkles in the skin (by adding moisture)
What does dermal filler treatment involve?
Treatment usually involves the application of a local anaesthetic cream to the treated area. Dermal filler gel is comfortably injected into the area once its numb. Treatment times vary depending on the amount of dermal fillers required and the area treated, but generally takes about 30 minutes.
After treatment, it is possible to apply makeup, and to go about your normal activities. Patients are advised to refrain from heavy exercise and excessive alcohol as these factors can increase the risk of bruising.
Treatment with dermal fillers sometimes does take more than one session to achieve the best results. The first treatment lays the foundation for the subsequent treatments, and future treatments allow for any adjustments to be made. The initial treatment typically requires the greatest volume of filler.
Following this, we typically are only required to perform top-ups to maintain the desired long-term outcome.
